The Moth Affect

Artist Statement:

‘The Moth Affect’ is a series of twenty paintings exploring transformation, vulnerability, and the necessity of change. Human torsos merge with abstracted moth forms, suspended in moments of becoming. When moths are caught in spiderwebs, they escape by shedding the delicate scales that cover their bodies leaving parts of themselves behind in order to survive.

Healing often requires dismantling who we once were, even when it is painful. Growth is not linear, and transformation is deeply personal. Some figures within the work shift slowly, others rapidly; some embrace change, while others resist it.

Through bright color and layered texture, the series reflects hope, individuality, and the possibility of renewal. ‘The Moth Affect’ invites viewers to look inward and outward to recognize their own fragility in others, and to consider how we all navigate our own webs of doubt, pain, and becoming.
